Established in 2014 and now in its 10th year, the Japanese-run Hinawari Kindergarten in Hanoi welcomes children aged 1 to 6 from Japanese or half-Japanese families. There are 10 Japanese childcare workers, including teachers who are proficient in Vietnamese, teachers who have traveled to about 30 countries as backpackers, teachers with experience competing in national gymnastics competitions, and teachers with experience working in severe mental and physical disabilities facilities and child care centers. As a distinctive feature of the kindergarten, the teachers who provide both life and learning guidance are assigned separately, creating a system that enables them to provide specialized guidance. Additionally, the Japanese nutritionist prepares the menu for the meals, and the head chef is a Japanese cook. The food is highly popular with the children.
The educational curriculum provides children with an education environment that is not different from Japan, such as sports like Japanese-style mat exercises and the barbell, swimming with a professional coach, the exit-style "Ronokoku Go" and "Ronnisusu", rhythm play with Sakura Sakura Ban, and music classes at the Yamaha Music School. In English learning as well, we have introduced the "Grape Seed" (Grapeseed) oral language learning curriculum, and we hold 40-minute classes daily to enable children to learn Japanese as a second language while fully mastering their native language.
One of the things children look forward to the most is the monthly outdoor childcare program. Based on the “aims” devised by the class teachers, we create and implement a daily program. Recently popular outdoor childcare has been organized in the Year 1 class, with the story of the picture book “Guri-gura” being used as the basis for creating a setting where Guri-gura brings magic powder from the kindergarten to make a magic powder to create a straw. The children then went to Lotte Mall Westlake (Lotte Mall Westlake) to buy ingredients other than the powder. They thought of what they would need to eat the straw themselves, purchased toppings such as cream and chocolate, and the next day they will actually try making a straw. Through such experiences, we are working on a Japanese-style childcare that helps children develop the ability to take action toward their goals.

Early childhood is an important time when children learn many things through play every day. We hope that by allowing children to play freely in an environment where they can be active and engage in meaningful activities, and by having them engage in play in a proactive and responsible manner and learn many things, they will grow into strong, kind, and compassionate children both mentally and physically. In addition, children begin to show interest and curiosity in various things around the age of 3. At this kindergarten, we approach education with the idea that each child should develop their unique personality and potential while having fun, and we strive to provide them with a nurturing environment where they can take on any challenge and experience many achievements and successes. To do this, all of our staff work together to provide loving care and supervision every day. We will help them develop the foundation of life skills so that they can live a brave and happy future. Please come and visit Himawari Kindergarten to see the lovely children with their bright smiles.
