Cholon, a Chinese town that stretches over districts 5 and 6 in Ho Chi Minh City and extends south to districts 8 and north to district 11. More than 500,000 ethnic Vietnamese people gather in Cholon, the Chinatown that spreads over 50 hectares. Cholon was established in 1865 as an independent city separate from Saigon, but was gradually annexed from the 1930s to the 1950s.
