Mr. Tadamaru, who is well-versed in life skills centered on cleaning, will introduce some little-known facts about living in Vietnam. This time, we will discuss the relationship between air conditioning cleaning and maids.
Maid service and air conditioning cleaning
In Japan, air conditioning cleaning is a flagship service menu for home cleaning companies. However, this is only applicable in Japan, and the history of maids is a major factor behind this. In this article, we will explore the history of air conditioning cleaning and maids.
The History of Maidens and Vietnam
There are various theories about the origin of maids. In the late 19th century, having a maid was a status symbol in the upper-class households of England. It is also said that there are over 76 million maids worldwide, of which 36.3% are reported to be in Southeast Asia. In Japanese, a maid is translated as "domestic worker," and instead of the employer, they perform childcare, cleaning, laundry, and security duties. 98% of maids in Vietnam are engaged in cleaning work, and if you request a cleaning service, women aged over 40 usually come to your home as maids.

The history and Japan of women
In Japan, women who worked as housemaids were historically called geishas. The roles and nature of geishas differ. For example, in the past, European geishas were Filipino or Malaysian women, but Japanese geishas were the same Japanese women. Over time, these subtle differences have continued to influence modern-day situations, and they are classified as housemaid and housecleaning service providers in Japan.
Housekeeping service providers: They rent out customers’ cleaning tools and detergents. They also do cleaning, cooking, and childcare.
House cleaning companies: Use their own cleaning tools and cleaning products. They only provide cleaning services as professionals.
Who provides air conditioning cleaning?
Historical differences also affect current services. In many countries, including Vietnam, if you request a house cleaning service, a maid will come. And they do not provide air conditioning cleaning. Air conditioning cleaning is provided by repair shops that repair refrigerators and other cooling appliances. In Japan, however, house cleaning companies exist as professionals. Air conditioning cleaning is classified as cleaning, and it has become common for house cleaning companies to perform this service. In addition to cleaning work, various occupational classifications have been formed over the long history of this industry.
