Vietnam has many villages with unique ethnic cultures and thousands of years of history, each offering a different experience. In this issue, we introduce Dongram Village, which has preserved and developed its traditional culture while remaining relatively accessible from Hanoi.

Approximately 50 km northwest of the city center of Hanoi. Located on the south bank of the Sonhong River, Duong Lam Village is the first village in Vietnam to be designated a national historical and cultural site, and is also known to the Vietnamese people as a day trip destination.
As you walk through the village gate, you see the blackened red brick walls, the thatched roof, and the wooden buildings, giving a sense of history that is very different from the scenery outside the village. Homes line the road in a central area, and the construction and age of the houses vary. The land is divided into plots.
As you enter, you can feel the different styles of the buildings—houses displaying abstract paintings, houses making antiques, and houses selling agricultural products—and are impressed by the unique unity and individual characteristics of the village. As you move towards the center of the village, the buildings become older, and many of them are over 1000 years old, while some have interiors that haven’t changed since that time.
The villagers are very knowledgeable about the history and culture of the village, and they are also very kind to tourists. It is an impressive experience to spend time here and learn about history and culture while the time passes slowly, giving you a sense of being at home.
